stock heads? "heavily" ported? I'm calling 13's [Wink]

see if you can put a few pennies together and replace those stock heads with:

AFR 185s
TFS TW
TFS highports
Windsor Sr's

with one of these, 11's/low 12's with even a stock cam.

Some real heads and a matching aftermarket intake are a must for that combo. You're better off spending that stroker money on aftermarket heads/intake/cam to stick on the stock bottem end.

No the heads have manely race flow valves new trickflow springs and they have been benched flowed and they flow as well as a gt40 X head so i dont think there is anyproblem with the heads plus cast is better than auluminum for daily driver use

GT-40x heads are an ok head for a 302.
But a stroker is going to choke on such a small head. I would have to agree with shade-tree (that hurts to say) but a low 13 is about all that combo will see.

Good Luck

Yeah, but your only trapping 102's, most people (avg. driving) would only run 13.7's-13.8's with 102 trap speeds.

As for the 347, I would think your making about 310-320rwhp if they flow as well as you say. As for what you would run, that would depend on the weight of the car and what track you go to.

BTW can you post the flow numbers please?

thanks 98 SS at least someone has faith in me i was talking to my buddy that actually knows about cars i was told i would be choking a little but still should dip into mid to high 12's. And there is know way i would buy heads/int/cam before i get a rock solid lower end. but if u read my message iam putting in an X-303 but i guess everyone skipped that part. And cast is better than auluminum for daily driven it can take more abuse auluminum u over heat ur screwed cast u can replace gasket. Cast maybe be heavyer but everyone is just in this auluminum head crazy lately cause of the magazine push it so much

I don't know but there are a lot of guys here who have daily driven aluminum headed stangs, and have yet to hear someone melting their heads. I think you should be into the high 12's low 13's Weight is also a big thin, that's why they are also asking the weight of the car, because you can have the power, but if you also have the weight, that can hold you back from some good times(those stock heads are pretty heavy). As far as asking guys who actually know about cars, I am pretty sure who ever responded here, pretty much knows what they are talking about. Also what intake are you running? [patriot]

yah i was trapping 102 on a stock v6 with no internals and a 75 shot on my s10.

out the hole i used to pull hard but top end i coudl see didnt pull as hard. i had a built 4.3 that would run low 12s on a 75 shot but ended up selling the truck and dont know what to do wiht the motor now. im thinking about putting it into my ext cab sonoma and on a 75 that shoudl run mid 12s.

You'll probably make ~250rwhp with your mods. @ 3400#'s on street tires you're looking at low 13's.

Cheap good mods = Used Edelbrock performer RPM intake. Used 70mm TB/EGR or a 75mm if you can get the intake opened up to 75mm.

The quickest way to not be helped is to tell someone that they have no knowledge of cars. As for your combo, you are missing a lot of key things that will really finish it off. Yes you need better heads and definately a better intake manifold. Right now I would guess a low 13 but that also depends on how you drive it. Lots of shitty drivers out there, my name included on that list. Run but don't expect anything special because you still need to do a lot of work. [patriot]

I wouldn't call it a craze, I'd say something more like, there is a limited selection of Iron heads you can buy, because you can't buy Iron Afr's or TW's. As for Iron heads flowing better then Aluminum heads: I have read articles on paper and online and they stated that if the Iron heads were the same and the aluminum heads The iron heads would make more power.
Aluminum heads however do weigh less and handle high compression better then Iron heads, with a 10.5 like yours, it might be something to think about.

Stock heads will only flow so much...

You're going to have the same problem I have. Small heads + displacement = high low-end torque & no high-rpm power. Best bet is to stick a cam in there that is ment for low power-peaks....like the stock GT cam.

I assume these are powerheads. In which case they're not so bad. Basically like sticking 6037's on a 347. Still, they're holding you back. & if you're using the stock intake...that is REALLY holding you back! I'd only go with the X if it was used & cheap. Otherwise I'd stick with the GT cam till I got rid of the intake/exhaust restrictions.

I've seen a dyno of a 347 with everything else carried over from a stock 5.0 make 218 rwhp (about 260 hp) after it was tuned.

You'll most likely see a 60hp gain if you carried over the parts from a 300-310rwhp 302 onto a 347.
