hi
dose anyone know how much power a AOD can hold?? also would it be a good idea to put a shift kit in the tranny?

In my opinion, if you are going to put minimal HiPo parts then the AOD is the way to go. Good upgrades for the AOD is a matched converter, shift kit and a big cooler. But if you plan to install more than 50 hp, I would install a T5. You can buy a built AOD that will handle the power but the price will way surpass the cost of a T5 transplant. I had an AOD and it held up to some serious abuse on weekends as well as being a 60 mile a day commuter for 38k miles. Its time to convert to the T5. Just my two cents.

Very True. The stock AOD is NOT a performance tranny. If you plan on keeping it, get an auxiliary(sp?) cooler, ASAP. Serious mods go as follows: 1)Shift Kit 2) Converter / Valve body combo (this already includes a shift kit.) 3)Full performance AOD
This can get pricey, but if you plan on replacing heads/intake or going with forced induction, the stock AOD will quit on you. (My first 2 failed before I bought an after-market AOD!!)
Hope this helps!

i saw a guy in 5.0 mustangs that has a stock AOD with just a shift kit, TCI torque converter, and a hardened input shaft and his superchrged car can run a 11.95. Really if u want to add alot of power to it you need a good canvewrter and inputshaft.

I broke a stock aod after about two weeks of using it. Never gave it full throttle but I'd give it about 3/4 throttle all the way up to 4,000 rpm which is only about 5-6 lbs of boost and let off. Then after I paid the toll on the SM brigde, first gear was 90% gone, it acted like it was in nuetral but the car still rolled forward a bit and finally after about 30 seconds at 5,000 rpm, it would shift into second.
My set up is a 408 w/ paxton.
Now I'm waiting to get my new Lentech AOD.
