Recently my poor Stang's been makin some weird noises. At about 3000-3500 rpm, my engine's making a weird knocking sort of noise. It almost sounds like a diesel engine when it does it. It's pretty consistent, but not 100% constant. Any idea what the deal is with that? It's been a while since I've changed my oil, and I know I need to start with that - but I can't believe that would cause the problem. Do you think it'll be ok to keep driving? I don't seem to notice any power loss or anything. Please help!!

Thanks,
~Brian

Well...it could be several things. It could be a bad lifter perhaps or perhaps there is something loose in you engine compartment that gets loud enough to notice at that certain rpm.

First thing is first though...check your oil level!

Does it make this noice while driving or is it contant during driving or while your revving in neutral (need to eliminate driveline noise to pinpoint the problem)?

You could always be low on oil. I would defnatley check that first. I wouldnt drive it untill I checked it as well.

Ride your bike instead.

LOL - the bike's way overdue for an oil change too.. But yeah, I've been riding that as much as possible lately. [Wink] Did you hear about our antics on Sunday? LOL - remind me to tell you about it next time I see ya... [Wink]

Ok, well - thank you all for the input on the car issue, I found the problem. I'm almost too embarassed to say... I'm so used to changing my oil every 3,000 miles, I didn't even know that the car would actually EAT so much oil: I was down 2+ quarts! Hahaha... Oh well, live and learn I guess. The car's runnin SOOO much more smoothly now, LMAO!!

Now if I could only get my oil to change itself! hahahah...

Nope, it's a 2000 GT... I didn't know they had an Oil dummy light...? The oil pressure hadn't changed at all either. Oh well, it's all good now - that's all I care about!

You were actually down 2 quarts? [Eek!] Whoa? How long ago was your last oil change? You might want to check for leakage too...just to be safe.

It has been a very VERY long time since my last oil change. The engine's pretty clean - I didn't notice any oil leakage anywhere. I think it was just normal consumption... Still runnin strong!
