Alright all....
My 84 CFI to 92 EFI upgrade is down to getting passed by the Smog ref. Here's my problems.

When I hook a test scanner to my harness, I receive a prompt that says "System not Responding" Does anyone have an answer why?

This is a new ford motorsport harness, I've quadruple checked, my connections all seem correct.

It also makes the sensors click and buzz, but always says the same response. The eng check light will flash codes telling me some problems too.
First time was 67 clutch switch was wrong. I fixed
Now I get a code 22 BAP sensor out of range. I replaced the sensor and the new one sent the Engine racing wildly to 3000 rpm. I put the old one back. Still same code.

What gives? I think next step is a new computer,
I got this one off Ebay for $100. At least now I have a good core.
Any advice would help.
thanks!

your out put voltage may be too low on the connnector...you might want to try looking at the scanner connector and make sure all of the wires are nice and tight, because if a wire is loose, it could be sending a week power signal.

What connector are you plugging the scanner into?

As for the BAP sensor... sounds like you got the wrong replacement. They never go bad anways, so if you're getting an error, make sure its hooked up right. It shouldn't be connected to the intake manifold like speed density cars are.

thanks Guys,

I've thought a lot about the scanner problem and figured I'd trace this out along the wiring.
It's only got a few wires, so I shouldn't have too much trouble there. I went ahead and ordered a new computer from ford too, to remove any doubts.

Thanks for the input on the BAP too. I double checked with a neighbors EFI escort and it had no vac hose so I was sure I didn't need that either.
I put the old one in again. I checked voltage and ran a couple more tests with another meter a friend lent me. It gives wave forms and all kinds of strange crap. It's a cool tool for all of the connectors.

Here's hoping I cure this thing so I can get on the street and to the paint shop soon!!

Please keep the suggestions coming.

You were trying to read voltage off the MAP sensor? No can do. That sensor outputs a frequency that corresponds to the atmospheric pressure. You need a frequency counter to test its output.... but like I said, I've never heard of one dying from natural causes.

As for your EEC code problem..... can you pull the codes normally via the check engine light?

The scanner thing I borrowed from a friend tells you how to check for voltage and also has a way of looking at the wave forms etc. It's really cool but I don't know a lot about those sort of things.

I received my new computer today, it seems to run better with my engine so far but I do still get the code 22 BAP sensor out of range. That code comes of the dash light, not from the other "Auto xray" scanner.
I'm going to have to do some wire tracing this Saturday to see why the scanner won't completely talk with the computer. It makes the engine rev on the KOEO type sequence but doesn't complete and give a readout.

Ohhhh frustration!!

Oh yeah, by the way ...
With my new computer I put the new sensor back inand it does the same, Revs the engine at about 2800 RPM.

I'm taking it back to the parts store tomorrow.

The old one doesn't do it at all.
