you may be running too lean/rich, or have an exhaust leak...

Whats your fuel pressure?..Do you have a timming adjuster?..Any exhaust leaks will make your car backfire..My car used to do that all the time..As soon as I took off my smog pump it cured the problem [Confused] (I probably had a bad diverter valve on the smog hoses)...

did you put the vacuum line back on the fuel pressure regulator?
check pressure with the vacuum line off, then make sure it is replaced before driving the car.

I don't think I have an exhaust leak I checked it already plus I had someone else look at it.The fuel pressure is set at I beleive 41 or 42psi.The vacuum hose is connected. If the car is running to rich or too lean what can I do to fix it?

Disconnect the vacuum line to the FPR and plug it, then check the fuel pressure guage.....Try starting off a little leaner at 39 psi(assuming you have stock timming)...See if that helps..If you start hearing detonation up the fuel pressure a couple psi......The best way to see if you're runnig rich or lean is to check your spark plugs..(white=lean)&(dark with carbon deposits)...Hope I could help..
