im using 87 octane. is that bad, and will it casue ping?

Hard to describe. Sort of like crinkling up a plastic bag or sheet of aluminum foil. It usually happens around the RPM you make peak torque at.

best description that I have heard for the sound of pinging/detonation is marbles in a tin can.

as far as the question goes, I use premium because I'm just like that... plus I have my timing pretty advanced at the moment.

91 octane with a little toluene to bump up the octane a little.

i use 91, and in the summer even that pings and I have to run octane booster. [Mad]

Im testing out the different gasolines. I went from arco 87 to 76's 91 and noticed a big difference, currently im testing out 76's 89 octane.

I use nothing but 76 in both of my cars. The mustang 91, the Tahoe 89. It's the cleanest...........plus NASCAR usues it so it has to be good [Big Grin]
