My cousin just replaced the PCM(computer) on his 87 GT with a new 87 PCM. The thing is he has a 1990 motor in it. I believe that he should have got a PCM for a 1990 5.0. Am I correct? From what he says his car is running rich as hell with the 87 PCM and to keep it running he has to keep his foot on the gas. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I thought I smelled Chevy when I saw PCM in the title.... Ford calls the "PCM" EEC (Electronic Engine Control)
The answer to your question is....is his car MASS AIR or Speed Density? '87 Mustangs were all Speed Density cars.
Why did he replace his EEC anyways? [ December 12, 2002, 11:19 PM: Message edited by: st5150 ]

His car has mass air (1990 GT motor). I have no idea why he replaced the EEC. I'm sure that since his car has mass air he will need an EEC from the same year that the motor is. Am I right?

For all practical purposes, '87 to '93 motors are all the same. "Mass Air" just means it has an extra sensor after the air filter. If he converted his car to mass air, then he needs a mass air EEC. California designated '88 5.O's and all '89 to '93 5.O's will have an EEC that will work for him.
