well i got a brand new ford engine in my car but my mechanic took apart my old engine and there was major damage 2 bent rods #4 and #7 2 cracked pistons #4and#7 and when he removed my intake manifold there was a big chunk of piston inside, also #4 spark plug was melted he had to pull the cam off just to remove it this was all caused by a dry nitrous kit from nos.I have researched and found many 4.6 99-up have blown engines with dry kits so i would advise to buy a nx wet kit or their new fogger kit coming out in jan also if your willing to play ask yourself one question are you willing to pay?cuz i wasn't live and learn that's all i can do

Im 99% sure the heads are fine all he did was lean the car out, ping and cracked the pistons if any thing the block is what would be bad
he might of scrached the cylinder walls, and maybe spun a bearing or 2

but he does need to take them to a machine shop and have them looked at to make sure they cool

Here is my take on Nitrous. I am not going to out right say that dry system are bad and you should never put them on, but. When injecting nitrous into the motor you must have that extra ratio of fuel almost simultaneously to counter act the extra “air” (nitrous). The way most dry kits work is you have one nitrous injector (usually in or near the TB), the way fuel is dealt with is to up your fuel pressure to enrich your mixture. This works to a point, but IMO the fuel does not get to the cylinder fast enough. I would not go over a 75hp shot when running the dry set up.
The best way to go is a direct injection wet set up. Every cylinder has its own nitrous/fuel injector. This insures that the nitrous to fuel ratio will be there when you squeeze. Now this is a pain in the ass because you have to drill and tap for every injector. But now NOS has that new injector piggy back system (don’t remember the exact name but you know what I am talking about). This I think is an excellent way to go. In theory you could run a wet system like you do a dry and have one injector near or in the TB but then you might get what is called a nitrous burp/fart (depends on who you talk to). This is when the fuel and nitrous are injected into the manifold and the extra gas sometimes gets caught in a pocket/crack/crevice. And when the motor get hot enough and in the right conditions the extra fuel ignites and well draw your own conclusions. Nitrous is great but not for the faint of hart, do your research and do it safe. Peace [Smile]

IMHO the systems between the upper and lower intake for EFI cars get the job done pretty safely. Too bad they "start" at the 200 HP level and we're just a bunch of double digit door slammers. [Big Grin]
