Has anyone seen a local retailer that offers a low profile floor jack? Min saddle height needs to be less than 4". Something reasonably priced as I don't need an $800+ aluminium jack designed for pit crews.

There are some mailorder places but would like to insure the jack will fit under my car before buying. San Jose area.

Thanks,

Sounds like you are pretty set on a jack - but an alternative is to build those mustangworld.com low profile ramps and then jack your car up after it is on those.

Kragen has ramps like that but if your car is lowered then there are extenders you can get.

Get those and use a regular jack to get it higher after that. Thats what i reccomend doing.

Try Griot's Garage. I think they have one.

It appears Sears used to carry low profile jacks. The Vallco store lists one on their display but the part number no longer appears in any catalog.

Long ramps would work. I'll search for something that will support low profile (I have 6" of clearance in the front). Worse case I drive up onto some 2x4's and increase the side clearance to 5-6".

The Griot's catalog is on my desk and open. Their jack looks real nice and is $400. I was hoping to find reasonable quality in the $200-250 range.

Thanks for the inputs.

Hey Brian,

I haven't forgotten the show, I'll sign up after I return from Thunderhill this weekend. Looking forward to doing some driving where I don't have to keep scanning the rear view mirror.

You noticed the number of police cars we passed on Hwy 9? Enough to sink a battleship by my count.

For $20 you buy the Kragen 2000lb jack. It's a puny hyd. jack. Use this to get the car high enough buy jacking it up from the side then use the other jack from they front or rear and you should be o.k. When lowering the car back down just don't lower it all the way then support it with the little jack again, release the big one then lower the little one. [Smile]
