This is a comomon problem with 5.0s burnning oil. You can get the short block rebuilt and this will take care of it.

punkina5.slow builds motors on this site..PM him and ask for pricing, i know he has been hella buzy latley so i think the main problem is going to be finding the time to build it. Or you could just Order a DSS 306 kit for 1500 all forged nice bottom end and be done with it

How many miles on your motor? Sounds pretty normal to me. Just keep pouring non synthetic oil into it and enjoy.

If you are on an extremely tight budget, you could always buy a used 5.0 block for like $200 out of the paper

try using thicker oil like 20w-50 or maybe that "high mileage" oil from valvoline or castrol? a new stock shortblock replacement is only $700 if i remember right, but my memory sucks.

I think most of the 5.0's ive had used about a quart a month. I wouldnt worry too much about it. Definately go with 20-50 oil though. as long as you dont see any excessive blue smoke out of the tail pipe, i wouldnt worry about it.

Does anyone have an idea of how long the 'average' life of a 5.0 is?
