Now that I have my own man cave im looking into buying my own air compressor to have at home. While I do work on cars professionally, I likely wont be doing to heavy of a workload at home, just using it to work on my cars and house as needed. Probably only will be used a handful of times per month.

Ive been looking online at different compressors. Sometimes I get tempted to just pick up a cheap harbor freight one, but I dont want to buy junk and throw money away. However, bang for my buck is what im ALWAYS looking for.

What are you guys using? Oiled or non-oiled? 2 stage or single stage? How many gallons? What do you recommend?

Thanks guys [patriot]

I have a portable husky compressor. Standing, and has wheels on it. Works great for pretty much anything except long constant use ( Painting and cutting )

Whatever you get, buy oiled. Those oil free compressors are junk and they are loud. For home use an upright 26gallon or better, capable of 150psi. I have the harbor freight version. I paid $350 for it and spent another $100 fixing all the issues that appeared within the first couple of months using it (caused by improperly torqued bolts and crappy hardware). It runs like a champ now, but if I would've forked out the extra $100 initially, I could've bought something better.

Get the biggest one you can fit/afford.

You will never say I got too big of a compressor.

Buy quality US made one. Most use Chinese stuff including motors.

Quincy was my choice. There are some people with 20+yr old quincys.

That Quincy looks solid and has great reviews but its way out of my price range. They had a a 26 gallon central pneumatic at harbor freight yesterday for only 150. But im afraid its gunna be junk so I didnt buy it. However I found a craftsman for 200 with the same specs so I dont know.

I have a Craftsmen 25 gallon professional, Oil free. Been going strong now for about 13 years. Only problem is, it's to small to do any real cutting. But for running impact wrenches and stuff like that, it's great.
