I'm in the market for a MIG and my budget will allow me to either buy a good 110v or a very low end 220v. I'm mostly going to be using it for thinner gauge metal work. Mostly automotive stuff. Everyone on the web says buy the 220v but I'm not positive I'll ever need the capability of a 220v. Your thoughts?

I bought the Lincoln 180c mig, and have been very happy with it. I figured I might as well go 220 and not regret it later.

i have a lincoln 135. Have made chassis dollies, done sheet metal, and all sorts of other projects. Its the cheapest one and all you need is to buy a tank with it. Had if for 8 years now.

By the 220, you'll wish you had it later on when you start welding more.

I just bought a hobart 210mvp.
$850 shipped to my door step
Replacing my lincoln weld pack.
Uses most of the same internals miller does.

do you plan on getting a bottle for a 110? working with thin sheet metal a mig is worth every penny over trying to do it flux. i would wait for a good deal on a miller 210 mig and never think twice.

Absolutely plan on running gas. I have a 90A Harbor Freight fluxcore right now and it runs like a champ. I've built a work table, engine stand and some other junk with it and it'll definitely stick metal together. My current projects need a lot better heat control than that welder can do.

I got an older millermatic at work and runs like a champ. I'd def go 220 or at least get one that has the option of running both.

I got a millermatic 252 and I love it but sometimes you find some problems as portability and find the right 220 plug but if you looking for the best bang for the buck I'll go with miller 211
Is auto-set you can go with 110 or 220 changing the quick plug
And is portable just my opinion good luck!

You have to be honest with yourself and the materials you will be using the welder for. For thin guage you will want the 110. If you are welding frames or heavy fab get the 220. Welders work best in the middle of their adjustment range, running a 220 way low on the adjustment would make a sheetmetal job difficult just like a 110 shouldn't be used for frame work. They are different machines. Check out Eastwood they have good deals on welders and I have seen their 220 mig in action and it works pretty decent!
