So i might have blown the turbo in my F350. There's a shop in Sacramento called Turbo Power, anyone dealt with them on rebuilding a turbo or buying a rebuilt turbo from them? Thanks

Turbo power is actually in El Dorado Hills near AED.

GREAT shop
GREAT customer service.

I just had a turbo serviced there and they had a quick turn around time and pricing.

I would highly recommend them...

i called a couple of other guys in Sac and they were wanting to send it out etc....

screw that..go to Turbo power

I know Shawn tried several turbo combos on his 7.3... you should PM him... I think I remeber him saying stock wheel and ported ported housing was what he liked the most.

I've been dealing with Turbo Power since the days of the SVO Mustang and the Turbo Coupe although they're different owners now I would highly recommend them they're great people with great customer service in a great product

Good to know thanks.

Anyone know if you can convert the stock turbo for a Powerstroke into a ball bearing type instead of a journal?

I am not looking really for more power just more reliability.

Cliff did the turbo in my 7.3L.
No issues what so ever, just let him do his thing and he'll make sure it's right.

What about upgrading to a better turbo? I hear Garrett makes one that bolts right in, works way better than stock with less boost

I don't know about the 38R, I was talking about the Powermax, why wouldn't it pass smog?

The 38R is the Powermaxx, visually it won't pass smog. So it doesn't look like the stock turbo i guess so smog guys fail you.

Does it really look that much different from stock that a smog guy would even notice?

What did you have done to yours?
Freshen up + wicked wheel

I already had the ported compressor housing, which I had to remove in order to pass smog when I sold the truck. Some how the smog tech noticed the purple powder coated housing and called my bluff that it wasn't stock.

Advice: Make it *look* stock *enough* that they don't bat an eyelash.

Smog tech was also baffled my 'tuned' truck huffed zero smoke. He mashed on the gas several times trying to get it to smoke. Not even a hint of black soot would come out. LOL

Wicked wheel is for compressor surge protection.
Honestly I liked the stock wheel + ported compressor housing better, truck seemed to respond faster. I also ran the wicked wheel and stock compressor housing and thought that was the slowest response of the 3 setups. My stock wheel was 'peppered' from a previous owner running a shitty K&N filter. Wheel looked like it had been bead blasted so I wanted a new wheel. Cliff recommended the wicked wheel, so that's what we went with. Peak power on the Dyno was up over the stock wheel / ported housing, but I *felt* like the stock wheel / ported housing made boost faster, never could verify this, just seat of the pants.

With the wicked wheel did it feel "faster" than a fully stock turbo atleast?

No.
Wicked wheel is technically a stock early 99 PSD wheel. I believe Ford swapped to a wheel that responded faster at the cost of compressor surge.

While I was in there I replaced the UP pipes with the updated bellowed units, changed the pedestal for a non exhaust value unit, and installed new O rings.
