Lol i know kinda stupid question but i was talkin to this guy at work and he was wanting to buy a speedo housing for his transfer case he said he needed the speedometer to work so he could.pass smog so it just got me thinkin since im getting ready to go try and smog my car for the first time ..thanks for the answer

The smog techs actually have a monitor that they look at while smoging it, it shows your speed.
