I like burton gear. If you just want to cruise get a longer board. You can find good deals on craigslist.

Burton makes good shit. The board should be from your feet to your chin in length if I remember correctly. Try to get the bindings that support the back of your ankle those are super easy to get in and out of. Not the boots but the way your held on to the board. The clip in ones get ice packed and you have to fight with them to get in and out. Try going to boreal real easy slopes and they got big stuff to. Shit we should get people to make this a trip now that I'm talking about it. Reno anyone???

Been boarding for 15 years. I used the same gear for the first 5-10 years. Now I got a sick ass Burton vapor super light board retailed for $900 and got 70% off when Tri-City sporting goods closed. Paid about $500 for my Spyder jacket and pants. For a beginner it will cost you up to $500 for decent gear. Less if you buy used. My advice on learning is to keep trying. After you fall, get back up. I see beginners all day sittin on their ass wasting the whole day. It took me 3 days straight to figure out how to get down from top to bottom without falling.

Good luck. It's a fun and expensive, but worth it.

I board.

Good ass deals here ^^^

Find a board on craigslist. For you peter, you need somewhere around a 157-160cm board.. preferably a wide one. Buy your boots new.. I like burton and salomon boots. If you have wide feet, get wide boots. Nothing sucks more than your feet hurting on the slopes.

Hit me up if youre looking for a board so I can let you know if the stuff is good. Take your time though.. you can find good ass deals. I got a 159cm K2 Fatbob snowboard with District 23 bindings 2 years ago for $15

ive been riding since 12 and have held a season pass last 6yrs in a row while going up every week:) if its your first year i couldnt stress enough to get cheap gear, and figure out if the sport is really for you.

If your first season goes by and you just cant wait to get back up there again, maybe its time to invest in a season pass and a nice set-up.

As far as board size goes, get something on the smaller side, the board will often times feel easier to control and lighter as a result of the reduced size. i prefer freestyle jib/park setups for that same reason, but also cause im a park rat.

Take a lesson. That have good deals with lift tickets. They teach you quick and easy. And you can be off on your own before half the day is done. Great investment. I got van, air walk and Burton boots for sale. I have to check the sizes.

I've always been a big fan of Flow bindings. Super easy to get your foot into the binding and locked down even as you're sliding off the lift.
