Well, it's about that time to finally smog my Faleen. I'm currently running a bassani x-pipe with 2 cats but was wondering if I should swap in my stock h-pipe or if it will pass with the x-pipe. Aside from visually only being 2 cats instead of 4, would it pass the sniffer?

It should pass the sniffer if the cats are good and you have your other equipment running. But it will fail visual.

It will pass with flying colors, i have a bassani x with 2 high flow cats on my 97 cobra and it did perfect. Just go to a spot that doesn't trip on visual

I have had some two cats setup pass and fail on a Foxbody, if it didn't pass the first time I would just leave the timing spout out during the test to help the cats get nice and hot, then it would pass.

Thanks for the input guys! From my experience with this place, they don't look under the car or anything, so I don't think visuals will matter. I'm just not sure how "good" the cats are on the x-pipe. I guess I'll try it out though.

Run the car to 1/4 tank, pour in a gallon of denatured alcohol and the car should pass without a problem.

Run it to 1/8 a tank and pour in 2 gallons and the car might even pass without even running cats, but it'll run like crap.

Some smog techs don't care but if the smog tech won't let you leave the spout out during the test, just get another spout connector and modify it, so it won't advance the timing, but don't drive around like that for long.

My 5.0 passed smog at the REFEREE (ten years ago) with a Bassani 2 cat x-pipe on it. Passed visual and sniffer. Now that may not be legal anymore, but just sayin. On a slammed car, the techs have a hard time seeing anything, let alone all four cats.
