I have a PC that is a few years old and sloooow. I think it has some spyware and shit. How do I start with a clean slate? I don't have a windows software disc, so if I buy one is that all I need? Anyone in the Sac area know how to do this stuff or recommend someone? What do you think it will cost? Which spyware should I run?

Well if you computer is infected, then your cheapest bet is to figure out what is what. Install and run the follwing:

spybot search and destroy
Super-antispyware
Ad-aware

The kinda do all the same thing but they catch different things.

Then install AVG (I actually think they are discontinuing their free product).

Then after all that has been corrected. Install and run CCleaner. Be sure to check registry for bad entries and all temp files.

Then you can also run a disk clean-up and a disk defragment.

All of the products I mentioned besides the last 2 which are windows utilities are available for free from www.filehippo.com.

Your other option and the fastest, would be a format. But you will need a Windows OS cd. Which can cost around 200 bucks for the pro version. That is your best bet. If you do that, then install everything I mentioned and keep them up to date and run them often.

Good luck
