Hi everyone,

I am looking to aquire a small portable welder for use around the garage. The only welders I have experience with are AC stick welders which work great, but definitely don't allow for the cleanest welds.

I'd like to hear some real world opinions. My requests are that I stick with 120V and stay under $500. I don't anticipate having to weld anything thicker than 1/4" inch steel. I'd probably start with flux-core wire, but eventually want to progress to gas.

I got my eye on the Hobart Handler 140 and the Lincoln Pro Mig 140 which both have very similar specs.

What do you guys think?

whatever you get, make sure you get gas. without it, you'll want to throw/break your rig [Razz] . speaking from experience.

oh, and use a mask, because that light is bright and will fuxor up your eyes. also speaking from experience

Lincoln Mig is what I use. I started with flux core and upgraded about 1 year later. What a HUGE difference. Definitely go gas
