So I bought a sony dsc-1 a bit ago, now the damn thing shuts off all the time, saying it is low on battery life, but the batteries test out just fine. Basically, I'm looking to get a functioning camera in the next few days - any of you guys have a suggestion for something simple, smallish, that takes a good picture?

thanks!

I got the Canon SD750 for $169 from Best Buy. It might even be cheaper now. Can't beat it for the price.

+2 [patriot] This camera rocks for point and shoot. It has a 3" LCD screen and it pretty small. Battery life is good.

I agree, get any canon..i used to work at best buy in the camera department. Canon's are arguably the best. kodak and panasonic is good too. Any camera can mess up. Make sure you get an extended warranty. they are worth it thru best buy.

Just another suggestion, I spent the last two weeks researching. I was torn between the CANON SD 870IS or the PANASONIC LUMIX TZ5. I chose the Panasonic TZ5 because of the digital zoom 10x, 9.1 MP, 3" LCD screen, build quality, lens, HD video recording, and other specs that it came with.

Check it out:

PANASONIC TZ5

CANON SD870IS

Here is a coupon that I used for CIRCUIT CITY to make it a better deal:

Purchase needs to be more than $249 (even sale items) the discount is 10% off. Order online at Circuit City and do a store pickup. Thats how I did mine.

Well, I shopped around and took some advice as far as buying a Canon - I didn't end up with the SD750, although it looks like a damn fine buy. I found a barely used SD30 on CL for $90 that a lady was selling because she had just recently purchased a digi SLR and didn't need this one any more.

This thing is super tiny, as small as my flip phone (I know, I'm old school) and takes 5mp pictures. We'll see how it does.

Thanks again,
Phil
