I've noticed many lighter colored foxes over the years with discolored door moldings. Because the moldings are soft, Ford used a flex agent in the paint for those particular moldings.

Because of the flex agent, the paint on the moldings tends to age differently than the paint on the rest of the car.

I have been considering taking it in somewhere to get the modlings masked off, and shot with a new coat of white paint that matches the rest of the car.

Can anyone recommend a shop that would charge me reasonable prices to get this done?

Here is a pic of what I am talking about:

Luke I was going to have mine painted white, I had black trim and was quoted $250 to have it matched to my white paint, the shop is on Brookside and Rumrill in San Pablo, I thought that was fair, I just never got around to it.

--------------------
Yellow94GT never touched anyone's sig or banned anyone, so I'm going to quit spreading that rumor. It's not like I have any proof anyways. All yellow94gt and other mods have done is volunteer their time to help other people buy/sell parts, learn how to make their cars go faster and meet fellow enthusiasts. I'm a hater, but it's hard to hate on these facts. I have saved hunrdeds, maybe thousands of dollars here buying and selling parts over the years alone, but I don't care, this website owes me damnit, and I'll piss on it as much as I want. Us haters gonna hate. Why contribute to something when you can take for free?

Oh yeah, this isn't my website, so no one has to ask for my permission to change my sig. Hell, not like I pay the CAFORDS bill, so why should they need my permission to put what they want on their site? We're all guests here. Maybe some of us should start acting like guests or leave?

Thanks for the help gentlemen.

Will be getting a few quotes this week. I think those moldings being painted should really revive the car.

I will be painting my car,(white notch) from the "belt line" down after opening up the rear wheel openings to allow for a taller slick. It should be pretty straight forward for a shop to do. Post the quotes you get so we have an idea of what this would cost. Great looking car by the way Luke!

Just got my first estimate at my long time body shop.

To paint the fender extension and the 6 piece side moldings was $490

How does that sound to you guys? I think it is a little steep, but I am getting the peace of mind that they will cut no corners.

You get what u pay for when it comes to paint, so IMO, that sounds fair as long as they do great work....

You are absolutely right Epik...

With this particular car, I am not so interested in experimenting.

Car will likely go into the paint shop next week.

that sounds steep considering they are only painting those few pieces. did the shop guarantee a color match w/out panel blending? if so, im a bit surprised considering that most shops would blend in the paint into the adjacent panels so the color difference is not as noticeable.

agreed..u get what u pay for w/ body work but it also pays to go based on recommendation and also from what you've seen of their work. i got shafted on my 94 paying near 4k for paint..granted it came out pretty good but i had high expectation for what i spent.

Thats the thing, Although 4k sounds steep & should guarantee some decent work at some smaller shops, but nowadays a "Great" paint job will cost upwards of 8k if u want the doorjambs & all done & high quality work...
