you get what you pay for. I have short block in a 68 Ranchero that a local mass rebuilding shop rebuilt and sold for $600 bucks. The car ran for about 5-6 minutes at 2,000 to break in the new cam, spun a bearing. When I pulled th emotor out and tornit down, there was only 1/2 of a rod bearing on #1. There is no metal in the oil and no bearing pieces any where in the motor or pan. They simply left out half a bearing.
When I took it back for a refund, they refused stating they would replace the block only. Yeah right, once a fool shame on you, twice a fool shame on me. They also don't have an eye for detail either. None of the rods are stamped correctly for their respective holes, though they did appear to be correct as far as fitting the crank journals go.
