That T/A is going to fetch 14K, should pretty easily. If it wa sblack it'd get a bit more. 400/4speed cars are fairly rare in the later years, and weren't available in CA. Its actually 220Hp, and 320 lb/ft of torque... With a good driver, the car is capable of mid 14's, which isn't too bad for a late 70's car. In comparison with the other cars of the day, like Ford's Mustang "King Cobra" (a kind of Trans Am wannabe) powered by an awesome 134 hp 302 V8 hurtled down the quarter mile in only 17.09 seconds at 80.69 mph...

Not that anyone cares. [Roll Eyes]

[Roll Eyes] That T/A is not going to fetch $14k. It maybe somewhat rare, but late '70s "musclecars" normally are not going in the teens.

They aren't? [Roll Eyes] Maybe not Camaro's and those worthless PintoStangs, but being a early second gen Pontiac guy myself, I am well aware of what the later cars go for. A nice low mileage 79 400/4 speed car will often go for 25-30K, some higher depending on options. Prices are down right now quite a bit from earlier this year with winter coming on and all, but here...

And that last ones an OLDSMOBILE powered one, worth dramatically less.

Granted, these cars aren't the typical beater you might see around the neighborhood, but beat cars usually aren't worth much, anyway. Eiher way, clean original cars fetch a fair amount of money, and commend a LOT more cash for true Pontiac 400 cars with a 4 speed.

You said that the gold one was going to fetch $14k, easily. Don't give me a bunch of ebay ads for stuff that may or may not have truly sold. Plus those black ones were nicer. That gold one has some old centerlines and what appears to be faded paint. It's probably only worth half the asking price.

Look, it has a Pontiac 400 and a 4 speed in it. THATS what make sit valuable, and if you can find me one for 7K in it, in at leats the shape the gold ones in, I'll buy and resell them all day long. You said 70's musclecars don't etch that kind of money. I provided links. Would you like more? Anyway, the gold isn't very faded as is evident by the reflections alongside the car and the fact that the gold's weren't very shiney like a new BC/CC job, anyway.

Why would anyone spend $14k on that gold '79 when you could get this one for $17,500.

This is a real muscle car, with good looks.

Mmmmmmmmmm, a '70. I love the 70-73 cars, which is why I own one. But...

That cars fairly incomplete and incorrect. Incorrect underhood components, wheres the A/C compressor? Incorrect valve covers, Incorrect shaker, incorrect radiator overflow bottle, misc chrome, a rusty trunk floor with a shitty POR-15 job, A YX code 400? Bummer, thats a 2BBl 400 code, either a 200 horse '72 or a 180 horse '73. Both the bottom of the barrel economy motors destined for duty in non performance cars that need some torque to move around. Granted the block doesn't make any horsepower and if the correct '70 components are installed it'd fix the HP problem. 17K is CHEAP for a '70 T/A and the non numbers matching block, the incorrect interior, and the evident mods (the Performer Intake, the rubber fuel line... ugh) have drug that car down to where it's priced. This car is a decent driver, but isn't really in the same league as some of the higher priced late 70's all original cars or the numbers matching cars. Thats why this 70's a bit on the low side of the price spectrum.

Why anyone pays anything for anything is beyond me other thean a persons particular desire for a certain product. Being the ONLY "musclecar" albeit watered down, of the post '74 model year, many people grew up with the 70's Trans Am and desire them now. It's same thing that drives up pretty much all classic car values. When guys who remember good times in their youths finally get soem disposable income, after their done with their families, they buy these cars. The top dog was the W72/WS6 4 speed Trans Am, seems logical to desire THAT car. BTW, a 400 4 speed late 70's T/A was just as fast as most muscle cars during the muscle car era anyway, and the 400 has plenty of potential. Just needs a good ignition curve, and a rejet of the carb to really wake it up.
