Well was bombarded yesterday with a job offer I just couldn't say no too and part of the deal was getting a new truck for "Trucker Al" to call her own
2006 Freightliner Columbia. It's no Pete, but it drives nice and has only 5k miles on her.

haha yeah I just found the thread, thanks!
Thats cool Alice! I thought you said your knee was giving you problems which is why you got an automatic in your stang? Well either way, that is awesome. You can do anything with a class A, just check the Bee on sundays- huge demand for them right now. But it sounds you like you got a cool setup right now. It must be nice to be your own boss on the road!

I lost 30lbs and the knee problems haven't been bad at all, besides I float the gears so I rarely use the clutch in the big trucks.
I should be bringing home a minimun of a grand a week, so I'm cool where I'm at for now

Starting out with 11 Western States, after I find a route I like I can request to have it as my dedicated run (at this point I'd like to run WA, OR, CA, AZ and NV)
My first run will be to Seattle then to Montana (meh) then back home. I'm hauling house paint if anyone was wondering, 53' trailer [ September 28, 2005, 10:48 PM: Message edited by: Floored ]

BTW...you can get an internet card for your laptop from T-Mobile for $100 and pay $30/month with unlimited internet anywhere there's T-Mobile service. It runs @ dialup speed...not the quickest, but it'll get the job done.

Its very comfy, the seats have air ride
I don't own it, but it's mine for as long as I am with the company, or once it becomes 3 years old and I get a new one.. I'll buy one for myself someday, but it will be a Peterbilt.
I'll be going through Cingular for my internet, or getting a card for the wireless at the Flying J rest stops. Thanks for the info though!

Thats cool. So what is the min. rest requirement for truckers? Do you have to keep a log? Will you use a dummy log? Truckers are the backbone of the U.S. economy with oil being the blood.

Well as of Oct 1st you will have new rules about sleep time. You must take 10 hours off duty or in your sleeper, with 8hrs of consecutive rest time. You may only drive a total of 11 hours, with a total of 14 hours of on duty time each day. There are other rules that go along with this, but that’s the basic gist of it.
I only run one log book, although I know others who run two at a time, they are the ones driving for 16+ hours a day. It gets tricky to make $$ when your paid by the mile, so many truckers cheat a bit on their time, for example say your going to Fresno and it takes you 4.5 hours due to traffic. Thats money lost, so what many will do is take the milage (169 miles) and divide it by 52 (mph as an average speed) which will give you 3.25 hours for the trip, that is what you would log in your book. Its not legit, but time is money.
My last job paid me at 26cpm (cents per mile), this new one will be at 35cpm. To make the living I want I will need to get 3000 miles a week in (If I make less than a grand a week its not worth it to me to be on the road)
