Looks like the right section to post this in. I just made the move over from having an RX7 to a 5.0..and yes im setting the thing up for drifting. So far in the week that I have had the car, ive been to one drift event out at Tracy( http://www.ncda.net ) I must say that the 86 that i have need a lot of suspension work to keep up with the scores of 240sx and Corollas out there..but it was great for laying down the smok show:)

Welcome to the site.
There aren't too many stang guys into drifting that I know of, but it sounds like you're off to a good start.
Got any pictures or videos of your stang?
Sounds like you're having fun with your new toy

Oh ya im havin a bast with the car.. It needs a lot of work in the suspension department..but thats no biggie.its the front rear ballance that have to work on. Coming from having an RX7 the torque is a wonderfull thing for drifting!! but im having a hard time having the front stearing imput keep up with the rear end. I have a pic of the car on the skid pad.. and here i am after a little off... here is the vid for the event http://www.mountainracer.com/~shockdrifting/vids/ndc3_0002.wmv pics can be found here http://www.samuraifiles.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album55&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php i think you can see me for like half a sec in the vid, on the skid pad..

What's the point of drifting?

The Point is fun.. Its kinda like the burn out for drag racing.. a way to show skill and lack of common sence, just kidding. mostly its to show driver skill and car controll, but at VERY high slip angels. It has grown and developed to the point that there are local level drift comps here in NorCal. here is a link..and ok one as to what is drifting http://www.geocities.com/skyline_kct/what_is_drifting.htm
hope that help with your question

Ok so there is like no official race winner or anything, right?

it is a contest instead of a race. like a burnout contest or something

www.d1gp.com follow this link http://www.d1gp.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=13 and about 2/3 way down there is a good list on whats judged on for the drifting. but for cliff notes, for solo the faster you go..the better show you put..the more ange and smoke you have..and the better/tighter line(IE racing line) you have..the more points you get.. ____________ edit.. its not a race, so there is no "race winner" for the local events..its mostly just for fun. most people that have been into drift a while call people trying to"drift" FWD cars "ass draggers"

You assume correctly. FWD cars cannot drift at all. Because the front wheels can't break traction unlike a RWD car.

I almost got into drifting at one point. Then i stopped for a while because i got into auto cross. I was getting pretty good at one point, probably cause my car has 50/50 weight distribution.
