there's a 13.5 lb. rim in mm&ff tech editor edition. it's a 17 inch rim though. the stock aluminum rims on a mustang weigh in at 24lbs. so if the steedas weigh 21 lbs. i don't see that as an achievement for the price of those rims.

Try2Paz,
I would recommend BBS they are lightweight and are relatively inexpensive. I have the 18" RC's on my car actually. However they are not mounted on a Mustang. If you want to check them out feel free to email me.

Probably be hard to find, but the older Saleen wheels from the S351's are lighter than ours by a pretty big margain.

All make light 18's and all $$$...except plain old Steeda. You don't want to open track w/ 18's do you?

If your plans are for getting an extra set for the track, you'd probably be better off with 17x9 wheels. MUCH cheaper along with more choices in tires. I don't think 18" wheels are that big of a difference anyways. The new Kuhmo Ecsta MX tires look nice too!! I would have had them on my car at Thunderhill that day, but they were still backordered. The Nitto DOT open track tire based on the drag radial looks interesting too.
New style Cobra R=$140 ea Kuhmo Ecsta MX= $140 ea Grand total $1120
I already had it all priced out because this is the setup I'll probably use for the track.

How about the new replica Saleen rims then? Have a feeling they are going to be rather heavy though.
Yeah, I'll be at the show. I think I'll go ahead and enter the '85 too. Although, 8:00-3:30 is an awful long time to be in one place LOL

Awesome, Scott, You can get there at 8:45 and we will be done by 3pm. Its not that long when you have sweet ass cars to look at. Let me know if you have any questions. I will see you there, or you can come around 6am, and help me set up

I just called Fikse on those rims. They are DAMN nice. I was interested in them until i got the prices JUST for the rims. Front- 18X9 - 1029 PER WHEEL. Rears- 18X10 - 1089 PER WHEEL.
They weigh 21 pounds per rim. They are nice but not $4500 dollar nice!!!

Brian,
I second the suggestion for 17" rims as your track set. Sell the 18"s you got from Stan and use the $$$ to get a good 17" setup. There is a good reason as to why very few race on the 18"s. Too expensive and few choices for tires. Even the Speedvision racing series forced their drivers to use 18"s because Toyo had a new line out, they all seemed to agree that they sucked compared to their 17" setups.

i read a statement by svt and they said they put 17 inch wheels on the new 03 cobra because it handles better. anyone second that or u think they were trying to save money?

i'm really skeptical about that, because why did they put 18's on their $55k 2000 Cobra R, which is supposedly setup as a road racer?

Pimp factor mainly. If you look at a majority of race cars in the GT classes, you'll find 17" wheels are the norm. Good balance between size and sidewall flex. Lighter and generally less expensive too.
