I have a 98 Cobra S/C with a sct chip. The battery was disconnected. I drove it afterwards for 125 miles to reset codes and brought it in to the station to get a smog check. It failed because...

Secondary air system....not completed
Oxygen sensor....not completed

Everything else passed. The tech said to drive it on the freeway at 55 mph and come back after I put another 100 miles.

Does that sound right or does it having something to do with the chip?

Sounds about right. It takes a bit to get everything reset.

You need a variety of driving styles to reset. You want the chip in. It reduces timing because of your supercharger. Reducing part throttle timing lowers your HC and NO emissions.

For what it's worth, I have an SCT chip in my fox (5.0) that bypasses the O2 sensors (locks in an air/fuel ratio). There's no way it will pass that way. I have to remove the chip, drive it around for a day or two, then it will pass smog. It does a lot of idle surging with the chip out, but still passes. After that, the chip goes back in!!

Do you know what your chip does? Maybe it does something to the A/F ratio like mine.

The car is S/C so the sct chip does adjust air fuel ratio. I can't take the chip out for many reason. It would never idle without the chip due to the 42# injectors which the chip is tuned for. I hope it is not the case of the chip causing me to failed smog.

After driving it another 100 miles all the codes cleared and passed smog. Thank god it wasn't the chip. I was going to bring it to my tuner to see my options. Thanks everyone for your input
