Does anybody know whats the procedure to swapping an ecm from an A9P to A9L? Im assuming i would disconnect the battery, but is there anything else to do or is it a straight remove and replace type deal? I will be changing the O2 harness to match the A9L. Thanks

Straight swap. You can swap to a T5 O2 harness or repin the AOD harness to match a T5 O2 harness.

It's in the passenger kick panel. You just need to pull off the kick panel, then I think there's two screws that are holding the plastic hold down and then there's one more to remove the ground. Pretty straight forward. Yes, always disconnect battery when messing with electrical.

"The problem is the difference in the harnesses and a mis match of the SIGRTN for the NGS for a T-5 and the NSS for the AOD. Start voltage is routed through the NSS in Auto setups and not in Manual setup. This is were the Frying happens, as the SIGRTN is a sourced ground and a 12 blast will fry it and cause holly hell in the ECM when a A9L is used in an Auto setup.

The O2 harness plugs into a 8 PIN black connector on the passenger side fenderwell. In that connector is a PIN for the NDS circuit, a PIN for Auto and a PIN for Manual. On the Auto 02 harness the NDS is connected to the Auto PIN and in Manual 02 harness the NDS PIN is connected to the Manul PIN."

thanks for the videos, those really helped! I don't know why I couldn't find those...I will have to check again where my manual o2 harness is pinned at. I think it may be at 1 and 5. I will need to check again. in the first video he recommended for 91-93 to be pinned at 1 and 6. so if im pinned at 1 and 5 currently, could that cause my car to run really rich and let off white smoke? thanks for the links martinna

Go to PonyPerformance.com
In technical section you will find o2 harness identification, this will make it clear as to jumper wire position for auto/manual

This document has everything you need to convert one O2 harness to another -----

The whole site has helpful information

The above would be correct for CA88 to 1990 o2 harnesses, 91-93 uses a different pin location as well as different wire color (blue/yellow stripe)

my 92 (before i put in the seemingly correct o2 harness) originally had the harness with the purple/yellow looped jumper wire, which according to the pony performance site is for an 88-90 aod. i pulled that and put in the o2 harness with the light blue/yellow looped jumper wire which is for a 91-93 manual. looks like im good there

Thanks, I've worked on/parted/built/customized these cars for about 30 years now so I have learned a few things along the way and don't mind passing my knowledge along.

i was mistaken, the looped jumper wire that is purple/yellow that i had in the car originally, was for a 88-90 T5, i was mixed up about it for some reason....so maybe i can use the old harness.
this is the original harness that was used with the A9P
 -

this is the harness i am currently using with the A9L
