I'm looking for a 2000 mustang 4.6 2v motor but everything I'm finding is 2000 specific. Then 2001-2004 are the same
My question is, what's so different on the motors?
Am I able to get a 2001-2004 motor for my 2000 and if so then what do I have to do to switch it over?

Should be a pretty straight forward swap [ 2015-12-20, 11:47 PM: Message edited by: Built88LX ]

Also says something about flywheel bolts are different? 6 and 8 bolts.
So should I be able to use a motor from a 2001-2004 or what would I have to do?

96-98 or 01-04 have 6 bolt cranks and are referred to as Romeo , 99-00 are referred to as Windsor engines, 8 bolt flywheels and you can tell the difference by the number of valve cover bolts. Windsor engines have 13 or 14 bolts ( don't remember exactly) Romeo engines 01-04 have 11 bolts. I recently blew up my 04 engine and used a 96 short block and some MMR heads, I used the same flywheel I had on my 04.
Short answer if you use a romeo block you need to grab a flywheel everything else is interchangeable

The types of differences between these years shouldn't matter much in regards to a swap.
Adding to differences already mentioned:
99-early 01 are Windsor engines and 02-04 are Romeo engines.
99-early 01 uses full floating wrist pins, 02-04 are pressed.
99-early01 use a (better) 10.5" clutch & 8 bolt flywheel, 01-04 uses 11" clutch and 6 bolt. McLeod makes a flywheel to allow an upgrade to the 10.5" clutch
99-early 01 use t45 trans 02-04 switched to tremec tr3650
99-early 01 have different length water pump shaft meaning they use different pulleys.
01-04 has the updated intake manifold w/ aluminum coolant cross over
99-01 also uses a different type of maf sensor with an external air temp sensor placed into the intake tube. in 2002-04 has the sensor built into the maf meter. (For motor swap, use the same year maf as Your car NOT the motor)
Late 01-04 switched to 21lb injectors from 19lb on 99-00 (Use the injectors that match the year of the car NOT the motor)
The 99 4.6 uses a 3 bolt belt tensioner with a longer belt than 00-04 [ 2015-12-21, 01:19 PM: Message edited by: Saleen 00-768 ]
