I have no experience with fordstrokers or tre, but I would HIGHLY recommend that you stay away from CHP and DSS. Seen quite a few motors f**k up right out of the box. Back when I was working at a shop, we had a DSS motor have a few rockers that werent even torqued and another engine that you couldn't even turn over by hand because there was not enough clearance in the mains.

Dam that's crazy. Where's a good engine builder/machine shop, etc. That I could take my stuff to? Ill just get a block and all the parts. Seems like every time I try to buy something ready to go I get weird feelings about it.

Someday I will have a fordstrokers engine, I here good things about woody, some say he takes long but its worth it.
All those others mentioned seem to just mass produce engines and probably don't care about the quality of work, Woody on the other hand builds every engine shipped out his shop and no one else. [ 2015-10-15, 11:22 PM: Message edited by: ed650 ]

Chp and dss are big jokes! I hear great things about woody at fordstrokers. His assembly time is a lot slower but I think he is still running the shop with less than like 3 people. Plus, it's all by hand the old school way. He's worth the wait.

Stay away from AD performance. I know it's not on your list but have had bad experience with them. I wouldn't let Brian build a Briggs and Stratton.

I had my boosted forged 347 short block built by Rob's Machine in Hayward. Great guys to work with, they showed me all of the processes step by step. They know their stuff.

Only experience with any of these company's is DSS & it was about 10 years ago. Bought the 306 long block with AFR 185's & deep sump pan. After around 8 thousand miles "mostly NA before I threw an S Trim on it "& only synthtic's after break in" and never over heated or any blown head gaskets it starts screeching. Upon break down of it I discovered it was a 308 and it had scorched all the main bearings! Bought a used 306 with an F cam that had been turbo charged with 700 RWHP for 500 bucks and it is still together! If I was going to make a move now I would buy one of those dart short blocks from Lee but hope whatever U end up with hold's up longer than 8K miles!

I have had great luck with Keith Craft, 306, 331 and 408, the 306 went 9s and the 408 has gone 8s and hopefully into the 7s, S&S in San Leandro is a good place to try [ 2015-10-17, 12:19 AM: Message edited by: racsirx ]

Woody/Ford Strokers does a payment plan as well, so you can pay off your motor while its being built.

I've had Gromm racing do some work for me a while back and have had a friend he built an engine for. He does great work but isn't cheap. M&M cylinder heads in Hayward and Daves engine in Newark also do great work.
