1966 rebuilt 289 bored to a 306, Holley 4 barrel carb. It is a fight to get it to start and stay running. Once it runs and i start driving it it hesitates when i hit the gas. Just wondering if the carburetor needs to be tuned and how to tune it.

There should be a part number on the carb. Is this a new problem? What did you recently change to the engine? Post up some pics.

I had an issue with my car years ago that was similar to the issue you are having and it turned out to be I was only getting 10 volts to the coil which made it run like crap and hesitate might want to check that also just a thought. [ 2014-12-29, 03:52 PM: Message edited by: kingdavid ]

put the vacuum gauge on any vacuum line or the base of the carb or tap into the pcv hose or brake booster.

Do you have a vacuum gauge, timing light and some sort of tachometer?
