Topic: Need Help ASAP!!!! With E303 cam swap on my 92 coupe

Ok so heres the deal i just finished swapping my cam to a E303 from stock and i also kept all my stock valve train, pushrods, and lifters and i torque the lifters to spec as the repair manual said to do . I went to start the engine and it fired right up and was idling just fine then i tried to rev it just a bit and it died and i could not start it back up then a while after cranking it backfired and blew the pcv valve across my shop, all the timing components are right and i have spark and fuel but when aim cranking the engine feels like its kicking trying to catch up so if any one can be of any help it will be highly appreciated thanks!!!! ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

check timing again, did u dot to dot on the cam?

First thing is to check the compression. The valves may be to tight. Do you have pedestal rockers.Need more info on this. It sounds like you do. Try loosening them up. Hard to say without being there personally. But if it started and ran normal the valves just may be to tight . Did you check pre-load??? And push rod length??

If he has pedestals he needs to shim them not adjust them per-see. But either way i think the valves are to tight Agreed.

Ok so I have the stock rockers not sure what the right name is for the type but I reinstalled them as the book states to do but what I wanted to know is if I would have to change the pushrods length when changing to an e303 from stock or what is the correct procedure to figure it out because from what I have been told the stock rocker is not adjustable ...

I have never had to add any extra shims to rockers doing a e303. Nor have I ever had to use longer/shorter push rods with them. Stock are nonadjustable rockers. tq specs are 17-22 ft#s

So does he have pedestals. You can not assume that but most likely he does. And i personally never install a cam and not check Push rod length. Just me.Ok does your head have bolts to secure the rockers. Or are they balls and nuts. This way we are all on the same page. Or better yet post a photo of the valve train.

ok got it thanks I'm hoping it's something small I
took it all apart and checked all the rockers and pushrods and everything looks good so I'm hoping the computer took a crap because it happend once before

Ok once again do you have pedestal rockers???? The ECM could be bad did you scan it and see if it has DATA and injector pulses spark all of the necessary things ETC???? The 303 should be a drop in with no issues as posted above. But i always check everything TWICE.

I'm going with yes. "i also kept all my stock valve train, pushrods, and lifters"... I'm with you. I always check push rod length also. But I have never had a issue when it came to the b303, or the e303. Doesn't mean it is always the case. Better to be safe, than sorry.
