I have a T5 that I just installed a Tri-Ax shifter on. In the past I have used Hurst Comp Plus(cast version) and most recently Hurst/Ford Racing shifter. I never had an issue with the Hurst units. Onto my question. It is very hard to determine where I am in the shifter pattern, 3 rd gear is sometimes hard to find, 5th is a pain to get to and sometime I get to a point where the shifter feels loose(like I've moved to far to the right and the pattern block is no longer engaged). It seems like this shifter allow to much side to side motion. Plus the centering seem to be very stiff. Has anyone else had these issues with the Tri-Ax shifter? Thanks

steeda tri-ax on my 3650 and I never have a problem. Took some getting used to the notchy feel, but that's it.
Did you adjust your bolts according to the owner's manual? its not just a "slap on" and drive setup. you need to adjust it. I have my instructions lying around, I can probably photo copy and attach here. [ 2014-06-09, 10:06 AM: Message edited by: MaK_1967v8 ]

I had an issue with my tri ax shifter too.. It would feel like I was in 3rd but as soon as I released the clutch, it would pop outa gear.. I tried adjusting the shift point screws and same issue still.. as soon as I put my stock shifter on it, the problem went away.. now I have a Pro 5.0 shifter and love it, no issues..

MaK_1967v8 Yes, I did adjust the stops per the instruction sheet. I'm a little gun shy since I tried to down shift into third and hit first, it was a good thing I wasn't going that fast. I'm going to try if for a few days and see how it goes.

How do you downshift to first? There should be a lock out for it. Not to mention, this short shifter is a no miss 3rd gear. And what I mean by that is if you let the shifter go, it returns to 3rd/4th exactly.
I have a completely opposite experience with my short shifter. its so damn notchy, you can feel every movement. especially with how it clicks/clanks moving into gears.

You are correct, 4 to 3 should be a straight shot. This shifter requires almost no movement from side to side and is not notchy. I never had these issues with either Hurst shifter I've installed. I'm going to remove it and install in on my Falcon's T5 and she if there is a difference.

Strange. Yeah, short shifters are all personal preference. I wish I had a Roush shifter, but its not produced anymore and relatively hard to track down.
Go with what's comfortable.

Problem solved, The ball of the shifter that fits into the shifter rail bushing doesn't completely engage in neutral. The situation was even worse when you were in gear and that is why I was getting so much play. My solution was to make a taller bushing for the shifter rail block. No more notchy, vague feeling.
