I have a gas leak and I'm pretty sure that's where it's coming from I have a 91 notch. I wanted to know the steps to replacing it? Thanks an advance

unbolt it from the filler door area and side of tank has 1 bolt, pull the filler neck out, swap the gasket on the tank, and replace everything. Quick job but pita.

More than likely it is leaking from the rubber grommet where the filler neck enters the gas tank. This is a VERY common problem on the Mustang from 79-04 place a jack under the tank, loosen the screw for the bracket around the filler neck on the tank, remove both tank straps, lower tank while pulling filler neck out, replace grommet, and reinstall.

How often do you notice it leaking? As in when you fill up or when you are parked on a hill or when you turn. I remember when my friend would do a donut his grommet was so bad it shot out fuel from there like crazy.

It may be the o ring at the fuel pump too. But if its the side grommet, you gotta partially drop the tank and unscrew the 3 gas filler neck bolts, also the one side of the tank bolt. NFJ. No fun job

It's not too bad just make sure there is little to no gas in it or else you will struggle with the weight
