1. That block is slightly stronger than the late model 302 blocks 2. bored .030 over so it is now a 306 3. putting 351 geads was a common thing years ago for an economic way to make more power over the stock heads but it really depended on which casting it was, combustion chamber size, etc. 4. EDIT: Thanks Wht86drop for the correction 5. factory rear brakes are drum so yes it was converted to disc. 6. don't know if you will pass 7. If those heads are ported and have been shaved down to bump the compression up to around 10.0:1 or around there then yea its an OK set up. But even with them ported any aftermarket out of the box head will outflow them. 8. Take it to the track or dyno then you will know what ya got! [ 2014-03-15, 11:17 AM: Message edited by: koupe377 ]

Number 4 is wrong. Mass air came out in 89 and up mustangs. 87 and 88 were still speed density.

He's in Cali so I thought they got it early, but yes your right it wasn't 87. Wasn't it 88 for Cali and then rest of the country got it in 89?
Thanks for the correction.

Cali is 89^ mass air. I dont know about other states but it should be the same either way. I had a couple 88 coupes and both were originally speed density.

California 88s came with mass air, I have all original wrecked 88 sitting in my driveway, only 88s had a rectangular port mass air connector and sensor, which had many problems.
Do you get this car from a guy named Mitch? I haven't seen him in years but he liked to use stock ported 351 heads on 302s [ 2014-03-15, 10:15 PM: Message edited by: racsirx ]

Late 88s were maf, early 88s were speed density if I'm not mistake. Late 88s came with the rectangle plug. 89s and up were oval plugs

California had mass air in '88, in '89 the rest of the country followed suit.

Before you go back to the sniffer set the idle rpm's as high as Cali will allow the idle to be. It burns cleaner at higher rpm. And check your cats, are they gutted just to pass the visual? I'm surprised it wouldn't past with the cats.

Unbolt the exhaust and shine a flash light inside. If its straight through where the cats are then they are gutted. But also with 4 cats the car should not really be that loud even with aftermarket mufflers. If's its really loud then they are prob gutted. [ 2014-03-17, 09:14 AM: Message edited by: koupe377 ]
