Has anyone installed front moroso trick spring? I was wondering how many coils do you have to cut. Im going to install them in my 87 coupe but dont know how many coils to cut.

Yes, I did, it's a pain, sorry I can't remember how much I cut off, the best way to do it is to completely remove the front control arm, place spring into control arm and spring perches and use a floor jack to jack the control arm into place, be careful it's very dangerous to do this way.

the MM install tool or one like it will make it a lot easier, I would start off with one coil cut and then see how you like it

I have many times. First off the springs are made by MOOG and what is the specks on the ones you are using!!! Or better yet do they lower the car??? Here is what i do Remove the springs on both sides and mike the wire diameter and spring height.Then compare it to the stock ones. Normally a whole coil will make the car to low depending on the spring specks. I normally install both springs and just snug up the ball joint nut. Drop the car move it a few feet forward and back to see the spring height. Do not drive just move it a few feet. If you like the height you are dun. Tighten the ball joint and install a pin. If not dont cut a full loop. Start with a 1/2 loop and make sure it is exactly the same on both springs. Most likely it will need a full coil cut but once cut and to short you are DUN. About installing the springs BE CAREFUL and there is no need to remove the A frame. What you need is a J bolt spring compressor to install inside the spring to tighten it so it bends in to a C Make sure you install the spring tool so it bends the open end tang lines up with the seat pocket. Then just push down the A frame install the spring and close the A frame. The spring compressor will become loose and you can remove it at this point. Then tighten the nut snug and drop the car and see if the height is to your liking.If not do it again till you have you ride height. Springs are simple to change but it is very dangerous if they get away from you BE CAREFUL and do not remove the A frame from the car!! Be careful and good luck!! Remember the cut side goes to the A FRAME

Depending on what spring compressor you use, it's sometimes more work to use one, I find it easier just to remove the control arm. Some spring compressors are too big to slide through the hole on the control arm once you are done using it, even if you take the tool apart, that's why I gave up on them and just do the control arm way.

In 48 years i have not experienced this situation??? And i have dun latterly hundreds of springs!! Jacking a spring in place with a control arm not fastened to the vehicle is CRAZY AND DANGEROUS!!+ [ 2014-01-09, 01:52 AM: Message edited by: Tom Renzo ]
