Sup ca fords I'm doing a budget build to my 87 chp , I picked up a s trim v1 for a deal , and already had gt40 heads at home with a cobra manifold and a b cam , my question is is it worth it running that hci combo? Or should I go with something better ? Looking to get the most out of this within a budget Lmk any help is appreciated thanks

How fast do u want to go? That combo on a good short block will go mid 12's or faster depending on traction. I ran a b cam with world Windsor sr heads and a Paxton sn92 on my old full weight gt and ran 12.4@113 with a crappy 2.0 60' & that car weighed nearly 3400lbs

As fast as I can get it to go lol I would be happy with those numbers I also have my m/t et slicks for the track , I stripped a couple pounds off the car (tubular suspension , and deleted p/s a/c s/p) just trying to get the most bang with what I have

Your setup can make more than your block can handle if you pulley up the blower, iron heads tend to blow more head gaskets vs an aluminum head. You can try a 2.95 blower pulley with a powerpipe and tune it for race gas and you could make 360-400rwhp. I have done, stock cam, GT40 iron heads, GT40 intake, Longtubes, powerpipe, 2.80 blower pulley(15lbs of boost), tuned for race gas and it made 410rwhp.

It's cheaper and saves time in the long run if you do your motor as you want it the first time. Trust me I blew thru thousands of dollars and wasted like a year N a half fucking with "temporary setups," definitely learned my lesson. [patriot]

Understandable, but if you're putting this setup on an old tired block the gains for aluminum heads will be minimal at best. Maybe a couple tenthts in the 1/4. Not worth all the hassle and extra money in my opinion. Ask me how I know this to be factual.

I think I'm going to stick with my setup for now and use the rest of the money to finish off the suspension instead , then next year hopefully have Dan build me a fresh short block to put aluminum heads on but for now this will do , anyone know what head gaskets are good for boost on cast iron heads?

I ran a b cam in my old 91 gt. It was full weight, every option, leather, heavy in other words and still ran a 12.4 on drag radials with a small burn out, & granny shiftin not double clutchin like I should, so yeah a b cam isn't the best cam in the world, but if he's already got it I'd say run it! Especially since he's doin a budget build. Plus the b cam is very unlikely to run into any ptv clearance issues.

If you already have high quality bolts, spending the extra $ on studs isn't worth it
