Currently I have 275/40/17 front (BFGoodrich g-force sport comp 2) and 315/35/17 rear (Sumitomo HTR), I am thinking about downsizing my rear tires to 275/40/17 but get a better quality tire (maybe BFGoodrich g-force sport comp 2 too) since the choice in 315/35/17 is very limited and expensive. What do you think would be better? Wider tire or slightly less wide tire but better quality or at least cheaper tire.
Car is 96 Cobra N/A, 4.10 gears (w/ aluminum flywheel), full GR40 street kit, I dont race other than the occasional auto-x. [ 2013-08-13, 01:06 PM: Message edited by: alexv ]

275 in the front is overkill bro.... 225 230 front and 275 is fine for the back

Yeah I kinda agree, the previous owner did that. That's why I am looking at downsizing them in the future.

If it doesn't rub then it's not overkill lol go to a nice 245/45/17 in front run your 275's in the back and sell the 315's

I think my front rims are 9.5" and rear are 10.5"; are 275/40/17 going to fit ok on these? I have heard peoples say that anything less than 315/35/17 on a 10.5" rim looks a bit...odd?

On a sn 95 275s aren't over kill especially in 17s. A 245 is ok,but small if you ask me. Gets 18 wheels, more tire variety. I think your current up seems legit(275/40r17 front- 315/35r17 rear).

Yes it will look odd, what kind of rims do you have?

It looks cool with the tire set up. Any other tire size will look weird on the car.

Cool, thanks, I guess I'll stick with that setup then. I just wish there was a bit more choice in 315/35/17...

I dont think anything bigger than 255's up front are really necessary, I run 245's and they are fine. 315's on proper offset rims in our cars look great though.

What's the width of your front rims? I think mine are too big (9"-9.5" or so) to have anything as small as a 245, but I could be wrong.
