I also need advise on cam selection, newb user friendly tuner, as I'd like to be as hands on, on everything i possibly can without causing a catastrophic failure due to my lack of experience.
I'll try to make this my build thread, and keep things updated as tHings progress.
Thanks guys! MikeN

Dont cheat urself by going with cheaper heads.. I would no doubt run either some AFR 225cc heads or some tricklow R series heads for a 363 combo. As for smog- sell the turbo kit and slap a T-trim or a ysi then get the carb EO plate off an s or si trim and put it on thee t or ysi. In my opion the t-trim is the best street centri blower available.
Also Ive never heard of a cheap or budget 363 LoL

500rwhp N/A is a lot harder than you think. It's gonna take big heads, a lot of cam, and a big intake and exhaust to make that happen. Not gonna pass visual as described. You can go a lot smaller on the hardware if you are running boost.
I would start looking at Tfs high ports, Afr 225's and some of the other big heads on the market to reach your goals, even with boost. I would strongly advise a conversation with a tuner and an engine builder before you purchase a combo that falls short of your goals. [ 2013-05-01, 10:48 AM: Message edited by: phildog ]

I find it hard shelling out 2k on some street illegal heads. I'm 5k into this motor and not even a quarter of the way done. I gotta get a better paying job. Trying to save to get into a house and building a 9-10 sec car is futile.

you'll never be close to 500RW N/A unless you spend the money on some good heads....you could always get some decent Victor Jr's which will work fine and then run boost with those once the time comes....that'd be one way to save money and still have something half decent

Truth! Every dollar spent on heads is worth $3 in the short block! And really crying about 2k heads when you have a 2k+ dart block.. smh.. Man the fuck up. Either get a real head, or be happy with the 400whp.

Lol, man the Fuk up.. Then fall into crazy amounts of debt! Can't let that happen . I'll be happy with 400rw n/a tho.. then run a 175 wet to giddy up when/if I start loosing lengths. I'm not looking to break 1500hp. I just want nuff to run with a liter bike down the road, or embarrass 95% of the bow tie brand cats. I'm not trying to skimp out on parts, but i don't need top of the line, but i do want something to build on. I can smog, then throw the turbo on it while i save for a niiiice blower.

as mentioned above, your heads are such a critical component for making efficient power that its important to compare airflow cfm with other heads bcz sum are gonna flow alot better than others, right out of the box. And with a big bore stroker this is not a somewhere to try n save pennies on because you will , if anything regret it later when u go to the dyno and make less power than u anticipated. I personnally would go with some badass heads for a 363ci like some foxlake stg3 ported tfs highports(330cfm@700lift) or get the afr 225outlaw heads and send them off to foxlake for porting. Or even sum 215cc RHS Proelites with sum porting. they will cost a shitload, yea- but will be better and make more power in the long run. Also choosing the right combustion chamber size is very importan as this will affect ur comp ratio, also need to make sure the valves u choose are compatiable with the pistons u have otherwise they will need to have valve reliefs cut into them.

To pass the smog visual test. Buy some used edelbrock performers and send them to Fox Lake and have them run there cnc program on them. They will flow some good numbers and pass smog. Then of corse you will need a custom cam to match your combo that will also pass. Should be no problem getting the no. you are shooting for.

Exactly what 4id said. Fox lake gets over 300 cfm out of performer castings with there 995 dollar service. Can't beat that and they still have carb number stamped on the end of them.
