So I just switched out my cheap autozone clutch cable for an adjustable one. I went from catching about 1-2" from the end of the pedal to about 2.5" from the ground. So my question is for the clutches sake is it better to catch closer to the floor or up high?

Up high is better. Most people don't fully depress the clutch when "banging" (mmmm banging...) gears. It'll be a bit easier on the trans imo....Although I like the way the car drives with it catching down low at the floor. Kinda user preference beyond what I've point out.
Btw you still hella slow?

I don't know if it affects your clutch but I think its better closer to the ground because when I had a 1985 the clutch was higher and when I had my car for sale everyone that came to test drive it burned the clutch because they weren't use to the clutch hooking up so high.

Adjust your clutch cable to where there is ALMOST no slack with your foot off the pedal. Do not give it too much preload or you may get a slipping clutch

Not always a bad thing. Adjust the cable to where there is almost no preload. You get a firewall adjuster? That'd make life a million times easier

Yeah I got a cable that adjusts from the fork N also a firewall adjuster. I don't think it's setup right kuz I seem to not get much response at all when I step on it.

closer to the floor....just make sure it isnt partially engaged when fully pressed
it might not roll on the street...but in jack stands it could
1-1/2" off the floor is ideal

Ok I'm gonna adjust it right now kuz it seems it has a little slack at the end.

ON MY 97 I RUN A QUADRANT ,FIREWALL ADJUSTER AND ADJUSTABLE CABLE, AND I JUST MESS WITH TH FIREWALL ADJUSTER TO TITEN OR LOOSEN

If its set up this way you'll keep the TO bearing from touching the PP, your TO bearing will last a lot longer when it doesnt preload the PP. I set mine to engage about an inch off the floor, i have a firewall adjuster so when the cable stretches its very easy adjustments
