got a friend in atl with a 69 falcon with a 302. He is having header/steering clearance issues. the car is stock with some headers but the steering pivot shaft breaks off every time he drives. he is looking to go to a rack n pinion setup but doesn't know what year car to look at for parts. any suggestions?? car is stock accept he did a 75 granada disc brakes set up in the front.

have u looked into the power slave drop kit? take a pic of what is breaking? i got a few spare parts laying around

On my cougar i just welded an extension onto my original and drilled a new hole. Works great and haven't had any problems.

no we havent looked into it yet. im trying to look it up now on summit but not finding anything. anyone got a link to the actual part #.

I had to put 1/4 steel plate on each side of the frame to use that drop backet. It was needed to distribute the load force so the frame wouldnt buckle. You'll see and hear why when you turn the wheel. Its just a poor design.

ive installed and driven all types of steering upgrades. the rack and pinion upgrade is extremely labor intensive and im not that impressed with the resluts. you still end up with the same level of header clearance and the steering feedback is less than impressive. the best one i can recomend is the burgeson kit. it replaces the manual steering box with a power unit. uses ither your stock steering pump or aftermaket. and moves the lines way up and out of the way of any heat or moving parts. the road feedback is awesome too. just like driving a brand new car. if its a 4 speed car they say the clutch linkage wont work but ive fabricated a few for people and i know the trick to getting it all together. just pm me if thats the case.

i'm running the borgeson kit on mine & i'm really impressed with it for the price that i paid. I'm still running the stock power steering pump as well.
