I was thinking of buy a used smog pump from pick n pull since I need one I'm just wondering about the reliability on these parts!

heres a tip dont pull the dirty oil covered one... pull the the shiny rebuilt piece that someone bought from kragen and installed it a week before they wrecked

whatever you buy, test it by spinning the pulley by hand, when they get water in them they rust up solid really fast and can't easily be fixed.
I killed mine by pressure washing my engine and letting it air dry, then putting the engine stand in my garage for a week.
sprayed pb blaster/wd40 in it a few times, stuck it in a table vice and couldn't get the damn thing to spin
