Yea, messed with timing a little and now its only the cats getting a little bit red.

x2 on clogged cats. but vacuum leaks would cause it to lean like stated above as well

x3 cats are clogged it shouldn't be glowing red in fact if its that bad you will see it glowing in the daytime too

my buddies 4 runner started doing the same thing. i had him rev it and keep it at 2500 rpm and i could feel little shards of metal coming out of the exhaust. he replaced the cat, and hes good to go.

Aside from lean AFR...extremly. Retarded ignition timing could cause this.
