make sure your surfaces are clean (use brake cleaner/clean rag), and yes use sealer on the ends, fuck what you hear about the rubber felpro not requiring sealer....use sealer on the ends.
also the gasket has metal stops on the bolt hole areas, they are there to prevent over tightening so snug is not tight enough.
a high capacity pan is rarely ever needed, just go with a stock (FORD) pan, none of that chrome kragen china bullshit shit..... And use the pan rails
the torque sequence/torque specs are --Step 1 (Large bolts) 11-13 ft/lbs --Step 1 (Short bolts) 7-9 ft/lbs --Step 2 (Large Bolts) 15-17 ft/lbs --Step 2 (Short Bolts) 10-12 ft/lbs

If you're using a 1 piece gasket then there shouldn't be a need for silicone. Besides, you want to avoid it at all costs. If silicone gets in your oil, its possible to block the oil pump screen. If that happens, you will be blocking the flow of oil resulting in lost oil pressure. Some people say that they've never heard of that happening or that won't happen.. but trust me, it happens a lot more than u think.. especially when you go overboard with the sealant
Good luck.. hope u get this fixed

If you use silicone, you're actually raising the gasket and you will be more likely to have a leak and you defeat the purpose of that 1 piece gasket. Silicone is used as a gasket maker, not a gasket sealer. They make 1 piece gaskets for a reason. If you are getting leaks out of a 1 piece gasket fairly quickly.. then its not being torqued down correctly.

Dab in 4 corners on a one piece pan gasket and never leak. Fms gasket for the win.
Be careful I've got 351w pan gaskets boxed as 302 pan gaskets a few times now......
