My buddy is going to be adding a Vortech S-Trim. What is the safest amount of boost he can run without any issues? It is good running motor with good compression. Its never had any problems.

How much HP gain will he see, assuming he'll be running 36# injectors with a matching MAF, 255 lph fuel pump, & Adj Fuel reg?

Besides an alum rad/e-fan setup & MSD 6AL unit, theres no mods under the hood. T5 car w/ alum driveshaft running 3.73s in the rear. MM full suspension kit.

S-trim are great blowers, a stock 3.33 pulley or 2.95 pulley with a power pipe will work great. You have to remember anything over 450hp at the motor can split your block. Also a good fuel curve and low total timing is the key on keeping it alive, so a good tune with 91 or higher octane is a most.

10-12lbs of boost is fine, depends on what pulley used, 100 to 150 hp gain depending on tune, a second fuel pump is a most,

You can run a 255 intank fuel pump, but you'll need a 255 inline pump also. Or you can just run a 340.aeromotive intank pump.

What year 5.0? How many miles? Ever rebuilt? Stock trans? All things that should be looked into before throwing a blower into a car.

Too many times do I see someone throw 2-3 grand into the motor just to grenade the trans or rear end. With 400 + horsepower I think the T-5 is the weak link over the block.

With forced induction if the rings aren't up to par then you get blow by that robs power and makes a mess of your motor bay. Also if its a 93 and up block then its got good ol hyper pistons so the tune should be a little conservative to prevent detonation.

1992 Mustang GT stock motor w/ 113K, never rebuilt but its a strong motor with good compression, rebuilt T5 w/ steel bearing retainer, rear was rebuilt by JohnB w/ 3.73s and new posi unit.

I don't think a supercharged stock motor will be pushing anywhere near 400hp. Let me know what you think.

Thanks [patriot]

WOW thats a nice rwhp # [Eek!] [worship]

I wouldnt be running 14 lbs of boost though, I'd most likely be going with 8-10 lbs of boost on the fully stock motor. What do you think that will yield?

Thanks for all your help guys. Keep it coming [patriot]

you can figure on 190rwhp for a stock 5.0, and 10hp per psi, depending on tune and health of the motor.

If I am not mistaken the WC T5 is only rated for 350lb ft tq so anything above that is pushing it. Though every car is different so may not break as easily as others kinda like the motor its hard to say exactly how its going to take the boost till ya get it on there.

A good compression check is good as a guide but when pushing 6-10psi is a far cry different then NA.

Personally, I say don't go with boost unless ya have another 2g laying around for when stuff starts breaking or if it isn't in boost friendly condition and needs to be rebuilt.

I appreciate that. I hear ya [patriot]
I'll most likely opt for a built T5 first after the supercharger install. The car barely gets driven and when it does it'll only be on the weekends.

I ran stock T-5s for years with my S-trims, it's power shifting and launching 5K rpm that's going to kill a T-5, shit I have seen brand new Tremecs break on the line with trying to launch at 5K rpm with a 306, gt40p heads, e303 cam and Cobra intake, it was only running low 12s that day, it belonged to Dennis Hillard, the owner of Central Coast Mustang, which is longer in business, he did get it in the 11s. I had a 90 Coupe, that made 474rwhp and 473rwtq and the best 11.46 @ 126mph all with a stock T-5. I have Turbo 93 Coupe right now that makes 491rwhp and 513rwtq with stock T-5 in it right now, but I might upgrade to a Tremec because I might up the power to 600 hp range.
