Hi everyone, I just blew my head gasket and maybe worse. I probably will at least be hunting for a proper short block very soon here. any tips and/ or helpful advice on what to look for and look out for ? Also, I know this is prolly a noob question, but when a block has been punched out to a 306 from a 302 what parts of the 302 can be still used in the 306 ? bigger piston? or thicker ring ? I would really apprecaite any and all helpful advice on this , thanks everyone.

You can use every part other than the pistons and rings like Adam5.0 said.

I dont think you will find a better deal on a forged piston roller motor shortblock with fresh rings and bearings than the price I shot you.

Matter of fact, unless you do it yourself or someone does it for free, you wont. Not around here.

I do encourage you to tackle this yourself, however.

It is not brain surgery.

Thanks Dan, you also said 2 weeks was the best you could do, and I'd like to be back on the road a bit sooner than that. The issue isn't the price. I was asking the forum what to look for and what to look out for. maybe even good questions that a buyer might ask a seller. Since this is my first time having to go find a short block , I thought the people on here might be coo about it .

Absolutely man. Not arguing that at all. Dont take my mentioning the price the wrong way, just wanted to let you know what you would be up against. I also answered one of your questions.

If money isnt an issue you can easily have your motor the next day if you want. CHP stocks them and may other vendors.

Be careful buying a used shortblock. Make sure you inspect it carefully before leaving home with it. Here's what I ended up with. http://www.californiafords.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=024165#000000

After I posted that thread, I dropped the parts off at the machine shop and they found a crack in the block.

The more that I think about it there are several folks in here that it would be worth whatever they would charge, to take with you to inspect any shortblock or longblock or parts you are planning to purchase if you dont have the knowledge yourself.

Just a tought.

Yes, like already mentioned bigger pistons and rings. Unless you take apart the block before you buy, you never really know what you're gonna find. Personally I would buy either a short block ready for heads or a bare block that has already been inspected and machined by a trusted shop. You will lose a lot more money later by trying to save some now. The block is the heart of your car, do it right the first time.

I also told you to attempt it yourself, tons of folks on here to help you out.

I had nothing to do with anyone else chimin in about my work, it speaks for itself.

Oh and the "yeah, maybe I might holla at yo dood"....well here is the PM you sent where you MIGHT of hollad at the dude....... since you want to try to put folks on blast.

We spoke earlier this afternoon about a short block deal. I was just wondering if you'd like to consider selling me the short block you have on sale on here, minus the parts that I don't need. Today I toasted my motor after my cousins rap video shoot in the city, I got the J code motor. My brother offered to give me a lift out to Discovery Bay tomorrow if its coo with you. Ill give a call around 11am. And if this all works out like I hope, Ill send people your way to do business too. Thanks again for your time earlier today, and I appreciate your help, and advise.

-Miguel
