it would be a good idea to upgrade your posi to higher spline. more splines more power it can handle. eaton makes some good shit

8 inch rear ends can take a lot more abuse than people give them credit for. The only problem with them is, there's not lot of aftermarket support for them.

For a rearend that can handle almost anything you can throw at it the Ford 9" would be the way to go.
but for a budget rearend with a good supply of aftermarket, stock parts new and used. you cant beat the availability and prices of an 8.8 rearend.
thats the best option IMO

I did not know a 8.8 would work with a 68 mustang

the difference in width from the stock 8" is minimal, i did mine about two years ago and from what I remember the difference was something around 3/8" total, which is nothing.
all I had to do was get rid of the fox mustang control arm brackets and weld on the spring perches (use the original 8" as a reference of the spacing of the brackets. setup your pinion angle and weld it up.

The fbody guys need a 9 inch aswell. but someone did a write up on using an 8.8 and just welding the spring perches onto it using mower axles and Lcas.
