I have a set of complete heads off a 1997 which I'm swapping for a set off a 2001. The 1997 are complete, sprockets, chains, etc. The 2001 heads are missing sprockets, chains, etc.

Can anyone tell me the difference between a 4v 1997 cam and a 2001 cam?

I was wondering if I can just swap the assembled cams from the 1997 into the 2001. I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, assuming I degree them properly. This would save me some money in sprockets, secondary chains, and tty bolts.

I've also read that there are some potential performance gains in doing this mod too. However digging into this more, I can't find anyone who's tested 97 cam into a 01 head (I found lots of 03/04 dynos and threads). Is there any truth to this claim for a 01 head with a 96-98 cam?

Thanks!
Match

i dont know for sure about 97 to 01. but i have put in a set of 98 cams in an 03 headed motor i would assume ( yes i know how assume is spelled) they would fit and if you check em with a degreee wheel you can make sure the opening and closing numbers are acceptable!

99-01 cobra's. as well as 03-04 mach1's will see a performance gain when switching to 96-98 cobra cams. The 96-98 is the most aggressive of the 4v factory cams, and some have seen anywhere from a 15-20rwhp gain from switching, depending if they degreed them or not. Im currently looking for a set of 96-98 cams for my 01, but not having alot of luck
