Topic: hood hinges?

The rear corner of my hood nearest the drive sticks up about 1/3" when the hood is closed. Once in a while pressing down on the corner seats it, mostly it doesn't. I have tried dropping the hing further into the engine bay, but it seems to be bottomed out. I am thinking my hings need replacing. I have lubricated them, it doesn't seem to help. The springs seem to be OK and evenly balanced so I don't THINK that is the problem. Anybody got any different or better guesses they would care to offer? Thanks.

Just get the dremel out and longate the holes on the hinge.

I admit I never thought of that. Of course, for $25 each I might buy new ones on general principle. I am afraid that changing them by myself would be a four-star bitch. I might end up with my hood through my windshield. Thanks for the thought. Dremel tools do come in handy. I had to make some new alignment pins for the bell housing, thats what I used to round the ends.

Yea, it will take a couple people to remove the hood. You dont need to buy new hinges. There's nothing on them that will really wear out.

Just bend the hinge. You'll have to do this without the hood on. If you want the hood to be lower than it is then you'll have to bend the hinge back more. You'll have to jam something in the pivot point to prevent it from going back. The idea is to change the plane of where the hood bolts on the hinge. We did this at NUMMI to fit the hoods on the Tacoma Trucks. If you're not comfortable in doing this, you're welcome to stop by and I can do it for you.
