After the cost of machine work and new hardware I also think you would be better off running a set of aluminum heads.

best way to go IMO, either use the gt40's and bolt them on and be happy with ~280hp, or if you want more than 300hp sell them and get some trick flow TW's, afr 165's, etc for about $1k.
gt40 heads for ~$400 + $600 in machine work won't make the same power, and still weigh 60lbs more.

at the most I would re-seat the valves (do it yourself with some valve lapping compound)and then swap out the tired valve springs. that would be it, anything more would require a shop (mill/port work)you would be putting too much money into them, if you went with any work done on the heads, you would be approaching a set of aluminum heads (in price)
change out the valve springs and run them

pearl performance in sac only charges 300 dollars to have both of your heads ported and polished. than maybe a valve job if its not to much more. also would be smart to get some new valve springs. thats really cheap if you already have the gt40 heads. if you dont have them than it might be cheaper to just buy some aftermarket heads.

Here's what you should do.
-Heads Fluxed for cracks -Replace Valve Springs, Guides, & Seals. -Get surfaced finished
Slap them on or sell them.

yeah that would be the best thing to do for reliability....but it ain't cheap. thats alot of money to dump into a set of iron heads. for that price get a set of better flowing and lighter aluminum heads.

I think the only reason to keep the gt40s(ported and all) is if you are in a racing class that REQUIRES that the heads be factory ford(with cam limitations, of course). If a normal street car you will be better off with aluminum heads..think of the weight savings and cooling improvements...hmmm..more timing..it gets better from there:) [ October 26, 2010, 02:02 PM: Message edited by: CobramanPhil ]
