No thermostat! That's not good. You need the stat to control the coolant flow, too fast and it wont cool efficiently.
Run out and get a 180 degree high-flow stat (spend the extra 3 bucks on the good one) and while you're there get a bottle of antifreeze and a bottle of Red Line water wetter, Royal Purple, or whatever additive you can find.
Install the stat, drain your coolant, then add 1/2 the bottle of antifreeze and all of the additive. Fill the rest up with water.
If you do all that, you should see improvement but you may still get hot. Fox motors run hot in the summer. On mine, I had to get a scoop hood to bring the temps down.

-Bad water pump=Sometimes the water pump impeller can break free from the shaft causing very low coolant flow and hi-temps or overheating -or- -Bad fan clutch=Grab a fan blade and shake it towards the front and back of the car. If it moves around a lot or if you can clearly see it wobbling when the engine's running, that could be your prob -or- -Blockage in the radiator and/or block=Flush it. They have kit @ most parts stores or go to a radiator shop and they can probably do a better job of it. -or- Air in the cooling system=I always drill 2 small holes on either side of the thermostat to burp the air out upon refill. Again, a radiator shop can also evacuate the air if it's in there. Good luck [ September 03, 2010, 01:42 AM: Message edited by: Maxoctane ]

Few questions are you going off of what the guage says? Or is it actually hot? Can u touch the engine t stat housing while it says it's hot? If so and u don't get burnt your guage is broken if it's too hot too touch u know the guage works. If you have a new pump n stat I would say u either have air in the system or ur radiator is bad. Air heats up a whole lot faster than water if you got air pockets it's always gonna b hot. Jack the front of the car up as high ass u can take the rad cap off turn the engine on let it warm up n shit keep filling the rad with water and that should cause all the air to come out. Checking the rad is harder u can take it to a shop and have em probe it to see if there's alot off cold spots meaning ur not flowing water all threw the rad just part of it

Is this serious ? no thermostat, how do you expect the water to cool down in the radiator.

put a 195* t stat back in it, if the water pump is good no air in system good radiator change the radiator cap it needs to hold 15psi and make sure no vacume leaks and make sure timing is right also 10* to 15* depending on set up

if you're heavily modified and it stays hot even on the freeway, your radiator is not efficient enough(given everything else is in good working order).

I had the same problem, I maxed out my cooling system with high-flow stat, 4-row radiator, stock fan (which blows more CFM than aftermarkets). Then I tried ceramic-coated headers, that helped some, but for me it was the scoop hood that did the trick. It allows hot air to escape when you're stopped in traffic, and blows cold air on the motor when you're driving. Now you have an excuse to get a new hood.
